How to Grow Plants in Winter

Growing any kind of plant is tricky in the winter time, especially if you live in severe winter conditions. My daughter lives in Nebraska and often tells me that getting fresh (not frozen) fruits and vegetables is really difficult!  There are good veggies in the store, but they are expensive.  It is my goal for everyone to be able to grow fresh vegetables no matter where you might live.

Are all prices better on eBay???
Not always.  Sometimes you can find a great deal, but when it comes to plastic for your pond, you are better off purchasing from a major hardware store.

     Winter Pond Tips

Many plants can be kept outdoors during the winter.  It just takes some simple planning.

  • Build a low cover over your pond to protect plants from freezing

  • Heat the air space with large C7 or C9 Christmas tree lights

  • Keep the water moving to prevent it from freezing solid

Look for EXTRA LARGE Water Lilies coming in the spring 2011

My water lilies are 2-3 times larger than the size as you would normally find on eBay or at a hardware store. The lilies you buy else where are bare root single lilies.  Follow the simple growing instructions and your water lily plant is guaranteed to bloom!  The weight of a single pot is over 10 pounds.  Insurance is included in shipping costs.

All my water lilies are blooming!  Vigorous, they grow and bloom all summer long.  The leaves grow up to 6 inches wide and the stems grow up to 2 feet long!  Very hardy. Comes back each year. Zone 4-11

All water lilies are registered named varieties

The water lilies come contained in a lily pot

All water lilies are pond ready and fertilized!

Colors Available: reds, yellows, pinks, purple.  Tropical is also available in blue and purple.

Ponds can be all kinds of sizes.  They can be in-ground with a pre-form liner, or something as simple as a large plastic container.
